A film based on the novel Las batallas en el desierto by José Emilio Pacheco, which recreates the intimate memories of childhood in the urban context of mid-20th-century Mexico, through the nostalgic gaze of a young man reminiscing about his first love.
Arantza Briffault analyzes the film as a visual document of domestic and neighborhood heritage: Porfirian houses, interiors laden with symbolism, schools, tree-lined streets, and everyday spaces that shape an orderly city, yet deeply marked by social hierarchies, family conventions, and structural silences. This talk focuses on the architecture of the intimate and the everyday as a key to understanding the emotional, social, and spatial history of Mexico City.
