Over the course of three days, María Cerdá Acebrón will lead A practice, a self-history of art, a seminar designed for those looking to deepen their artistic practice and develop new ways of approaching it. It is an invitation to pause, observe, and draw connections from an experimental perspective.
This seminar offers a space to explore artistic practice through drawing, memory, and observation. Through a series of individual and group exercises, participants will develop tools to reconstruct the paths that have shaped their work, review their creative processes, and discover new connections between their works, readings, experiences, and projects.
The timeline functions here as a research device using graphics and collage. Drawing, remembering, and observing become strategies for gaining insight into one's artistic practice and understanding how ideas are transformed into images, sounds, objects, texts, or installations.
Over the course of three sessions, the seminar moves from drawing to the studio, and from the studio to the exhibition space, viewing artistic practice as an open research process.
This seminar is aimed at artists, art students, researchers, and anyone interested in developing visual tools to reflect on their own creative processes from an experimental perspective.

María Cerdá is a visual artist and researcher. She is currently a doctoral candidate in the Arts and Design postgraduate program at FAD, UNAM, Mexico. She was a member of the Soma Pec program (2013) and completed postgraduate studies in Social Sciences and Humanities at UAM, Cuajimalpa (2016), both in Mexico City. In this field, she developed a project exhibited in 2018 at the Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico and in 2019 at the Nadie Nunca Nada No gallery in Madrid. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid (2010) and was awarded an Erasmus scholarship to the Berlin University of the Arts, where she lived for two years (2008-2010).
Her work has been exhibited at the Centro Conde Duque, Madrid (2026), Museo Tamayo, Mexico City (2025), Museum of the City of Mexico (2024, 2019), Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, Madrid (CA2M, 2021), Cultural Center of Spain (Mexico City, 2024, 2018, 2013), Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil (Mexico City, 2019), Museo Amparo (Puebla, 2020), Casa del Lago (Mexico City, 2013, 2020), and Laboratorio Arte Alameda (2019), among other institutions.
In 2024, she completed the Artistas en el Campus research residency (UAM, Madrid, 2024), and in 2023, she received production support from PAC, Mexico City. In 2021, she was awarded the Community of Madrid Creation Grants, the Community of Madrid Visual Arts Circuits Prize (2011), and the Complutense Young Creators Archivo Intransit award (2011). She has participated in various residencies, including Bulegoa (Bilbao, 2021), Dos mares (Marseille, 2019), Crudo (Rosario, Argentina, 2015), and CIAT (Berlin, 2014). She has been part of the La galería de comercio project since 2011 and Entre minas since 2017. She served as coordinator of the School of Arts and Crafts at UAM Cuajimalpa (2016-2019).
She lives and works between Mexico City and Madrid.

Arte Abierto inicia su programa de mediación y comunicación educativa 2022 con una conversación entre la investigadora y escritora Irmgard Emmelhainz y Sebastien Noel de Troika, tomando la exposición No Sound of Water como punto de partida. Abordarán los temas presentes en este proyecto, como el Antropoceno, y harán diferentes lecturas y cuestionamientos (Materialist Realism / Philosophy of Matter / Art as Image).
