The book is a document accompanying a selection of four emblematic pieces by the artist: Pulse Room (2006), Tank (2008), Remote Heartbeats (2019) and Pulse Index (2013). Featuring an introductory text by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer and another by researcher Claudia Álvarez Arozqueta, the publication examines how the artist uses heart rate sensors to elicit kinetic and audiovisual responses, employing an approach that challenges identification technologies. With each of his works, he subverts the recognition function typically used in national security, public services, and banking transactions, transforming it into a collective experience that emphasizes our shared humanity. Additionally, the book offers a comprehensive review of artists and artworks throughout art history that have incorporated heart rate into installations or performances.
