Art and Architecture Derives extends to Baja California Sur.
In this first edition of Art and Architecture Derives at Arte Abierto Baja, we will explore the history of Los Cabos with Aníbal Amador through its architecture, understood as a living record of the social, cultural, and environmental transformations that have shaped this territory for over three centuries.
Through the analysis of religious, civil, and domestic buildings, we will journey through different historical moments to understand how ways of living responded to the conditions of the South Californian landscape. The talk will address construction systems, materials, and architectural solutions developed in dialogue with the climate, geography, and local resources, while also allowing us to recognize the evolution of settlements and the built landscape from the mission period to the formation of today's cities.
Beyond a chronological tour, in this drift, Amador proposes reflecting on architecture as a material testimony of collective memory and as a tool for understanding the relationships between community, territory, and identity. Likewise, he invites us to recognize the architectural heritage of Los Cabos as a cultural legacy whose research, conservation, and dissemination are fundamental to strengthening the bond between the region's past, present, and future.

Art and Architecture Derives of Arte Abierto Baja consists of a series of talks on architecture, urbanism, and landscape, and their intersections with art in the South Californian context.
Aníbal Amador holds a degree in Alternative Tourism from the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur and currently serves as the Municipal Chronicler of Los Cabos.
His work focuses on the research, documentation, and dissemination of the region's history, heritage, and cultural identity. Throughout his career, he has collaborated on projects related to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, participating in publications, radio and television programs, as well as editorial and audiovisual initiatives that seek to strengthen the historical memory of Los Cabos.
He has complemented his education with studies in sustainable tourism, tourism innovation, and climate change, and has also worked as an educator in fields related to tourism, the environment, and cultural heritage. Among his notable collaborations is the photographic project Sublevación Pericú, directed by Josafat de la Toba, for which he contributed to the conceptual and narrative development.
As a communicator, he also creates content for the Calisureños platform and is a member of Raíces Cabeñas A.C., spaces through which he promotes knowledge and appreciation of South Californian historical and cultural heritage.

Arte Abierto inicia su programa de mediación y comunicación educativa 2022 con una conversación entre la investigadora y escritora Irmgard Emmelhainz y Sebastien Noel de Troika, tomando la exposición No Sound of Water como punto de partida. Abordarán los temas presentes en este proyecto, como el Antropoceno, y harán diferentes lecturas y cuestionamientos (Materialist Realism / Philosophy of Matter / Art as Image).
