Composing sound with light is a one-day workshop at Arte Abierto as part of FISURA's academic program, by Australian artist Steven McInerney, which proposes a practical exploration of the connections between light and sound through 16 mm cinema. Using three film projectors, participants will create intermittent image loops by splicing individual frames onto an opaque black base.
When these loops are projected, they activate analog synthesizers using light sensors. Thus, each projector functions as a channel for an audiovisual instrument that combines image and sound in real time. The different combinations of loops generate visual and sound patterns that form a collective composition.
The activity will begin with a presentation of McInerney's experimental work and a 16 mm projection. The practical workshop will take place at noon, ending with a live presentation open to the public.
