As part of the public Open Art program that derives from the exhibition Modthern Nature by Gabriela Galván, who approaches different ways of understanding the nature and ecosystem of El Pedregal, Ambient for reading proposes a session of Ambient live and in-room reading, inspired by the textures of the exhibition.
In Modthern Nature surfaces are full of textures that can range from smooth to rough, which is why we use them to build a bridge between music, reading and the pieces in the exhibition, with their gardens and life-sustaining technologies. For this session, Ambient to Read brings together two musicians, Neurokill and Nico to mix a live ambient set, and the artist and poet Rocío Gallardo, who will share poems by her own and other writers based on a fanzine. In addition, Café Para Leer will share some vessels with us to accompany the session. As on every occasion, there will be coffee to share. Bring your readings! Welcome!
Both the volcanic rock and the native species that inhabit El Pedregal and the exhibition have a unique language: gestures and movements that have survived and that condense human and non-human temporalities, the product of assemblages between territory, housing, cycles of life and death, as well as different forces such as eruption, rain, cultivation and the sun.
It's a Prohibido, Deseo and Café proposal to read. The three projects come together to offer a space where DJs interested in experimentation prepare a set thinking about various bodily alterations linked to the act of reading. The selection of texts and the setting are carried out by one guest artist per session, who proposes a textual route based on music. Ambient for reading is an installation that seeks to tighten up the party with reading, breaking the cliché that in the first there is no knowledge and that the second only happens in the interior of silence. He is interested in working with the decontextualization of spaces: electronic music outside club culture, reading outside the academy and art outside galleries. The effect is always unexpected, however, the intention is to open a threshold so that bodies can be attentive to their environment, to the conditions of the music and to the intensities that all reading provides.
